Anti-tarnish jewellery needs very little care, but a two-minute clean every few weeks keeps the shine like new. Here is the routine for each type of piece we sell.
Stainless-steel anti-tarnish pieces
- Fill a bowl with warm water and one drop of mild dish soap.
- Soak for two minutes.
- Wipe with a soft cloth or a very soft toothbrush around stones and hinges.
- Rinse, then pat completely dry.
Do not use toothpaste, baking soda or silver polish. They are abrasive and will scratch the plating. This applies to everything in our anti-tarnish collection.
Temple jewellery
Never soak. Wipe gently with a dry microfibre cloth after wearing. Store in the pouch with a silica sachet. Our temple sets are hand-finished brass and love being kept dry.
German silver replica
Oxidised finishes are meant to look dark in the recesses. Do not try to polish them bright. A dry wipe is all they need. See the silver replica range.
Crystal and stone pieces
Clean around the setting with a soft brush. Avoid pulling on prongs.
Storage
Separate pouches, out of direct sunlight, away from the bathroom. The humidity in a bathroom is the single biggest cause of dull jewellery.
Quick answers
Can I use an ultrasonic cleaner?
For plain steel pieces, yes. Avoid it for pieces with crystals or pearls, which can loosen.
How often should I clean daily-wear pieces?
A dry wipe after wearing, a soapy soak every three to four weeks.
My bangle has a dull patch, is it ruined?
Usually it is a film of lotion or sanitizer. A soapy soak and a soft cloth bring the shine back.
Does cleaning void anything?
No. Gentle cleaning is part of normal care.
